Unique Beauty

Posted on August 28, 2021August 28, 2021

From the pine-scented, crisp air of the Colorado mountains to the corn fields of Nebraska where the sweet smell (in Skip’s opinion) of cow manure wafts through our RV windows…what a magnificent and diverse country we live in! Ninety-two degrees greeted us. We were in need of refreshment!

We arrived on Friday in the early evening at Pals Brewery, our Harvest Host site for the night. Located in the southwest corner of North Platte, Pals is surrounded by pastures and corn fields. We marveled at the packed parking lot, even though it feels like Pals is a bit of a drive for most patrons. A field adjacent to the parking lot offered room for four RV rigs.

A cold wheat-honey beer for Skip and an interesting diet coke for me washed off the road dust. In case you are wondering, “interesting diet coke” is code for added Bacardi, preferably Bacardi Limon. We bantered with the waitress and general manager, both midwestern-friendly sorts who made us feel welcomed. A delicious pizza dinner completed our Pals experience.

We settled in for an overnight of boon docking (no electrical hookup or water). How thankful we were for our generator that ran the air conditioner in our bedroom just long enough to cool it down. By the time we were ready for bed, the rig was sufficiently cool to foster a night of deep rest.

We awoke to a deep blue sky reaching down to the fields around our rig. Nebraska has its own unique beauty. Now we continue east to York, NE, to stay the night at the Diamond B Horse Motel. While Skip appreciates cattle, I favor horses. I’m hoping for a stable full of horses. I even have some apples to share. Should be delightful!
