I’ll be honest. When we planned this trip, both Skip and I wondered how we would handle 5+ months of traveling in our 400 square foot rig, much of which included 24/7 togetherness during our adventure travel. I’m delighted to report that we’ve truly enjoyed this adventure and remain happily married after 10,000 miles! Phew!
We’ll be home in two days. Wow! As our final post, I’d like to offer a few observations and photos.
Our country is VAST! America is truly beautiful. We’ve marveled at the miles and miles and miles of uninhabited space in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota. We’ve relished experiencing rural America.
Serving with the SOWER ministry team has added immense joy and purpose to our travels. We’ve been blessed to make new friends who we expect will be life-long friends. We are grateful for the chance to serve God’s kingdom in a behind-the-scenes way, supporting the ministry of youth camps and retreat centers. Game nights with our SOWER friends were a blast!
God’s creativity is infinite. We’ve hiked in astonishing, magnificent canyons in numerous state and national parks. We’ve been enveloped in beauty.
Buffalo handle hail better than I do. They seemed far less rattled. We stayed at the Memphis Buffalo Ranch Harvest Host in Wyoming. This picture is from the morning after the hail storm. They gathered at the fence to observe me as I was walking by.
Hiking is my favorite activity. Hiking in Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs is my favorite place to hike. Hiking with Skip or with a friend is a treat. This is Tammie, a fellow Minnesotan, and my hiking buddy.
As landscapes go, mountains beat oceans hands down. The Spanish Peaks in southern Colorado were beyond majestic. Pikes Peak as the backdrop to the Garden of the Gods and Glen Eyrie is and was breathtaking.
Skip is a remarkably talented DIY kind of man. He fixes, he problem solves, he maintains, and he drives for hours. I’ve been asked if I would rent him out. Tempting, but no. I’m so blessed. In return, he has a trip planner in me. It’s a marvelous partnership.
Finally, adventure is good for our souls! Thank you for coming along for this 5+ month ride to share in our adventures. It fills our hearts with joy to share our discoveries with you. We sincerely hope you’ve experienced joy, beauty and hope through this journey.
We’ll be back on the road in mid-August through mid-October, traveling through Idaho and Montana. Hope you’ll come along for the ride!
Travel well!!
We are in Maine, and it is just magnificent.
So glad your travels were great.
Safe travels to you and Tom as well!
Welcome home, you two! Thanks for all the fun armchair travel – well done, we have really enjoyed it.
Thanks, Eloise. See you soon dear friend!
Thank you both for your gift by sharing your adventure with us. Amazing people and scenery via the gift of God.
Blessings for you both.
Pat and Lynne ❤️🥰🙏
Thanks, Pat. Next time we are driving through Kansas, we’d love to say hello if we’re anywhere near you and Lynne.
A beautiful summary of your fabulous adventures of service to God and enjoying His creation! It was fun to be along for the ride with your amazing pictures and descriptions! Welcome back to Minnesota!
Thanks, Lynne! See you soon!
I undertook a similar adventure shortly after my husband’s death through much of the same country. Mine was 6 weeks and 6,ooo miles going from central Illinois through Atlanta to Texas; up to Alaska via New Mexico and all points west; and returning on a northern route back to central Illinois.
Sharing your marathon travel and ministry through your fabulous photography and keen wordsmith skill has been both a privilege and a blessing. Our country is truly a massive and diverse place. Your experience is one to cherish.
Thank you for the vicarious journey. I look forward to the coming fall chapter.
Hi Sandra – I just now read your kind words. Thank you for following along. I am glad to read of your own adventure. You covered far more ground in a shorter period of time. Amazing!
Most importantly, thank you for mentoring me years ago. I’m grateful God crossed our paths.
Until August when I’ll be writing from Montana!
Welcome home Anne and Skip. Looking forward to catching up.
