Canyon Majesty!

Posted on August 29, 2025August 29, 2025

We’re just days from Minnesota now, on the home stretch as they say. This will be our last post in 2025. There’s more beauty to share. Who doesn’t love canyons?! They’re my favorite.

Visiting the famed Shoshone Falls drew us to southern Idaho as our path for heading eastward. We’re glad we made the effort. Isn’t this spectacular?

Another famous landmark is the I.B. Perrine bridge that crosses the Snake River in Twin Falls. We saw it from above and from below while hiking. What an engineering marvel!

As a bonus, we were blessed to Hipcamp along the edge of the Snake River Canyon. The canyon views were stunning, just steps from our rig. Our first night afforded beautiful sunset views up and down the canyon.

What is hipcamping you ask? Hipcamp hosts are private home/landowners who allow people to camp on their property. Might be a home with an acre or two. Might be a ranch or a farm. The joy of hipcamping is that you typically have a private all-to-yourself campsite. While I thought it would be marvelous, our experience exceeded our expectations.

From Idaho, we made a brief stop in Utah east of Salt Lake. Strolling through Park City, albeit in the rain, was the highlight of that leg of the journey. Sorry, no pictures.

Next, we pressed on to Wyoming, to the small town of Alcova. We camped near the Alcova Reservoir. The reservoir is the result of a dam on the North Platte river. We enjoyed a morning of fishing with a guide. Seemed like we were past the prime season; our results were modest but we didn’t mind. We savored beautiful views, blue skies and not-too-hot temps. No more heat stroke for this girl!

Skip showing his catch – a nice rainbow trout.

I didn’t much care for holding a slimy, wiggly fish, so our guide Ryan helped me out. I’m pretty sure my rainbow trout was longer than Skip’s … just sayin’!

The most delightful part of our morning was a float through the Fremont Canyon carved by the North Platte river. These views left me grinning. Our guide was so kind to share this special beauty with us. Can you spot the natural arch in a part of the canyon wall? Amazing.

Thank you for joining us during eight weeks of RV travel through the west. We hope you’ve experienced joy, hope and beauty along the way through our posts and photos. God willing, we’ll hit the road in mid-December to return to Africa Inland Mission in Florida to serve as SOWERs for the first quarter of 2026.

We’re not sure what adventures 2026 will bring… we might return to the Pacific Northwest next summer to explore Mt. Rainier, visit Victoria in British Columbia, hike more of the North Cascades, maybe head up to Banff, and also to check out Pendleton Oregon. On our return eastward, we’d love to spend time in southwestern Montana. There’s so much more to see! Hope you’ll come along for the ride!

Sounds like it was a lovely trip all around.

Enjoy Minnesota. We’re in Tucson, but we hear the weather is cooled off in Minnesota.

    Travel well.

Your photos are just tremendous, as usual. Your descriptions are so well written and helpful. Shoshone Falls are amazing. Rainbow trout are the most delicious of all fish, I believe.
