Our adventures in Zion have spanned three glorious days. Day one afforded an introduction to this incredible park and a marvelous hike. The altitude and the hike left us rather tired so we headed back to the rig at Coral Pink Sands State Park which has been our home base for our time in Zion. This unique park boasts huge sand dunes of rose-colored, super soft sand. With daily afternoon winds ranging from 30-40 mph, we now have a complement of pink sand in our rig to carry with us a reminder of our time here.

For a different kind of adventure on day two, we signed up for a 4×4 OHV guided tour to slot canyons near the eastern side of Zion. Our tour guide, Zaag, was just 18 year olds. I was a bit skeptical about having such a youngster as our guide, but he was fabulous. The ride was bumpy but fun. The slot canyons were beautiful, but candidly, we’d already seen the best of the best at the Upper Antelope Slot Canyon (check out those photos here). Nonetheless, it was fun to hike into the canyons, especially without wearing a mask and without crowds of tourists! To his credit, Zaag shared lots of interesting historical and geological information about the area. Best of all, he took some terrific photos of us!

For our final day at Zion, we left early in the morning to beat the crowds entering from the east side. We were delighted to find a parking spot (there aren’t enough) close to our desired hike at the Canyon Overlook Trail. With another blue sky day, we tackled the challenging hike, grateful to have our trekking poles. Of course, younger folks breezed by us but that was okay. The beauty was beyond breathtaking. I sang one of my favorite songs quietly to God, worshipping him in his magnificent cathedral. With the help of some fellow hikers, we were able to capture this day in photos for our memories and to share with you.

We are moving on to Bryce Canyon for our next adventures. Come along for the ride!
